Today was a historic day for America. We saw the election of our first African-American President, and we saw it by a landslide. Barrack Obama swept the nations with a whopping 338 electoral votes, as of 11:23 CST. Six states are still to report in, but the message sent has already been amazing.
Rarely has our nation been so drawn together behind a single cause. It shows just strong America, and how one person truly can change things. Never in my life did I ever believe that I would see such a positive moment in history. It teaches us all that one man really can make a difference, and it only take perseverance and hard work to make our dream and ideals come true.
I watch this campaign for twenty one months starting from the primary's all the way to this day. It was a long and hard fought race for both candidates. They both had a better vision for our world, and tried to make it a reality.
Race truly was an issue this time though. From the white supremacist who plotted a mass genocide, and the murder of Mr. Obama, a week ago. To the people going to McCain's rallies shouting anti-semantic remarks, and carrying monkeys in nooses; Obama rose above the message of fear and hate they tried to send to him, and worked on.
The Economy was an issue in this election. We have the greatest economic crisis in front of us since the Great Depression. We have seen bail-outs and "suspended" campaigns. But we also saw two men who love their nation, and are doing all in their power to fix the problems.
Mr. Obama left us with a beautiful speech, telling the true trials of America. Telling us how America has always been down, and always fought on, always rose above. Telling us how we have always changed the world for the better. And telling us how we would always try to continue that legacy.
He left the stage with these final words: "This is our moment. This is our time. To put our people back to work, and to open doors of oportunity for our kids. To restore prosperity, and promote the cause of peace. To reclaim the American Dream, and reaffirm the fundamental truth that out of many, we are one. That while we breath we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubt. And those that tell us 'We can't' we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people, 'Yes we can!'
To hear the whole speech was one of the most moving things I think I've ever been a part of in my life. It was beautiful, eloquent, and truly summed up the spirit of America. This night, maybe more than any other in my life, I am proud to be an American.
Yes we can, Mister Obama. Yes we can...
