So I just finished the single player campaign. You follow the paths of a U.S. marine on the Pacific front, and a Russian soldier on the Eastern front.
Inevitably, this game will be compared to Call of Duty 4, mainly because the same engine was used. Gameplay-wise, it is good, thanks to the CoD4 engine. Story-wise, it was decent, but not as polished as other games. As for going back to WWII, some may say it was a bad idea, but I think by using the CoD4 engine it was a good idea.
The best yet also worst new mechanic I think is the flamethrower. When you first get it, you feel like an indestructible badass, capable of burning many a Japanese soldier. But after a while, you realize the distance the flame goes isn't far and you can quickly overheat the gun, leaving you defenseless long enough to get killed. Still, give it a try because it's awesome!
I only just started trying the multiplayer, and it is basically the same as the MP in CoD4, just tweaked a bit.
Haven't tried the campaign co-op, but I suspect a similar experience as going solo.
I unlocked the Nazi Zombie mode, but didn't play too much since it starts out realllllly slow, probably to give you time to prepare. Wasn't too interested in this mode though.
In conclusion, if you like the Call of Duty franchise, or really liked Call of Duty 4, I say you should give this one a try (rent).
